Blog #4- FINAL REFELCTION

CONTENT

This study allowed me to better understand the current climate of NCAA sports when it comes to how athletes are displayed in the media. As well, this research further ed my knowledge of the new NCAA NIL Policy which has not only helped so many athletes but also possibly further inequalities within college sports. However, there still needs to be more research into this topic of inquiry.

PRODUCT

The presentation part of this project allowed me to be able to communicate my research into clear and concise words which helped me better my speaking skills. As well, writing my academic paper helped me learn how to format my results into a readable form and a way that others can also understand. AP research has helped me learn so many skills that I will continue to use throughout my academic career and hopefully in my personal career in the future.

PROCESS

AP research was an extremely insightful class in learning time management and having to balance my personal life with school. I had to learn how to adapt to different changing environments I couldn't control and I had to better learn how to communicate if I needed help. I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn life changing skills and how to conduct research

The climate of collegiate athletics has changed drastically over the last three years due to the new NCAA Name, Image, and Likeness Policy passed in July 2021. The debate on whether Title IX truly mandates an equal balance of men’s and women’s sports coverage is still highly polarized in the last decade. This study examines the representation of male and female collegiate athletes represented in the photographs of the NCAA Power Five Conferences’ Instagram accounts. Findings in this study indicate that although male and female collegiate athletes’ have similar promotional efforts through the Power Five Conferences’ Instagram accounts, male athletes are highly overrepresented, suggesting there are inequalities by gender.

ABSTRACT

My Next Adventure...

This July I will be heading down to The College of William & Mary where I will also be starting my division 1 soccer career. My research journey is also not stopping as I hope to look deeper into this topic of inquiry... :)
